What The Whales Told Me

I’ve just come back from a Winter break in Scotland on an island with epic, white beaches,  clear, turquoise waters and a raw and rugged wildness. 

I had an encounter with whales that I’d love to share with you.

It plugged me right into a vibrant sense of purpose, inspiration and creativity, and I hope it does the same for you. 

One day, as I was walking along the beach, I looked across the sands and gasped – in front of me was an entire whale backbone, resting amidst the kelp.

Can you see it in the photo above? It was twice as long as I am tall!

(One of the locals later told me that several deep-diving whales had been washed up that summer, probably due to some kind of deep-sea testing.)

As I sat with the whale bones, I was struck with both a sense of grief at the challenges we face on Earth today, and a roaring fire of inspiration within me to do everything I can to be part of the change.

I started making this mandala – as a kind of embodied prayer – and as I chose each stone I seemed to hear a whisper from the whales…

“Dive deep”.

I felt a commitment rise in me to do everything I can this year to play my role, as best I can. To keep diving deeper and helping the changemakers of our world bring their work forth in ever fuller, bigger and more beautiful ways.
